Nice keyring attachment included.
Great drive. A bit too large to call it a thumb drive, but for a 2TB portable drive it’s very nice.

Corsair External SSD — Rugged, Compact, and NVME Speeds
As someone who values performance, durability, and aesthetics, this Corsair EX400U Survivor 1TB USB4 External SSD impressed me. The drive strikes an perfect balance between performance and ruggedness. It’s not overly heavy, but it has a reassuring heft that signals quality construction. The spongey, rubberized exterior provides a secure, grippy feel, with a subtle Corsair logo cutout that adds texture without being overdone. It feels purpose-built for real-world use rather than delicate desk-only storage. The physical design is especially well thought out. One side includes a reinforced loop for the included keychain and carabiner-style clip, finished in Corsair’s signature yellow fabric. The clip attaches securely and can be removed easily thanks to the Velcro strip, which is convenient when mounting or reconfiguring a setup. On the opposite end, a thick rubber door protects the USB-C port. The door is captive, so it stays attached when open, and it seals firmly when closed, reinforcing confidence in its IP55-rated protection.Performance is where this drive truly stands out. Using a USB4 port on my PC, I measured approximately 3,500 MB/s read and 3,000 MB/s write speeds, which is close to internal NVMe performance. The larger models available in 2TB and 4TB claim higher speeds respectively. The included USB-C to USB-C cable is short, about a foot, but it’s clearly high quality and fully capable of handling the advertised bandwidth. In practice, it feels optimized for laptops, camera rigs, and mobile workflows rather than long desk runs.I also tested this SSD as a media drive on my Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, where it performed reliably for video recording and file transfers. Its compact size made it easy to integrate into a camera cage setup, and while I chose to adapt my own mounting method, the included clip alone would be sufficient for many use cases. Between the speed, durability, and flexibility, this drive works equally well as a rugged daily-use SSD and as a long-term, disaster-resistant archive for critical data.I will recommend this product to my tech-loving friends for sure because it’s a standout external SSD that delivers on both speed, aesthetics, and durability. It feels engineered for professionals and enthusiasts who need fast, dependable storage they can trust in demanding use-cases and environments.Pros:Excellent real-world USB4 performance approaching internal NVMe speedsRugged, grippy rubber housing with IP55-rated protectionCompact size with versatile attachment optionsReliable compatibility across PC, iOS, Android, and camera workflowsCons:Included cable is short for bandwidth purposes, which may require a longer replacement for some

Working wonderfully. Using is as my grab and go rescue and OS install drive.
This drive is working wonderfully as an rescue drive. I have several OS ISOs on this with a boot menu that will let me pick which ISO I boot to. Also stored on the drive are some windows utilities that help me fix problems. This is a great drive for this. The rugged exterior gives me confidence that I can just toss it in a bag and go. It came with a strap so I could hang it off my pack if I wanted to. The USBC port on the bottom is covered with a plastic cover. I would say this would be resistant to water, but I am not sure I want to test if it is water proof. The speed is wonderful, I am able to run many of the isos as a live CD with very acceptable performance. This would also be a great drive to use when hiking or doing other outdoor photography activities and using it to backup you photos and movies on the go.

Corsair
My laptop is setup as a dedicated media server for all the TVs throughout the house. This compact drive is the perfect solution for making my media files more transportable between my other systems. I have to laugh when I think about my first portable hard drive from the early 2000’s that was a 20Mb hard disk in an aluminum case. We have come so much farther since then.I know that over the past 35 years, I have had my share of Corsair memory sticks in my many computers. So I have no reason to doubt the integrity of the SSD inside this drive. But knowing how light an SSD card can be, I like the heft of this enclosure, as it tells me that there is some beef behind the design. It’s a robust case with a nice feel, texture, and heft.

Corsair Survivor – Fast and Rugged for work on the go.
The Corsair EX400U Survivor 1TB is both fast and genuinely rugged. Transfer speeds from my HP G5 hub held steady at a little over 300 Mbps, which was better than I expected from a simple USB‑C connection. The lanyard is a practical touch, and while an integrated cable would have been convenient, I get why that would compromise the IP rating. The protective cap feels well thought out and locks in securely.I’m picking up a short flat USB‑C keychain cable so I can keep it clipped to the carabiner and avoid leaving the included cable behind. Overall, it’s a strong addition to my work‑from‑anywhere kit.

Great External SSD
The SSD is much smaller than I had thought it would be. It transfer files pretty quickly, much more so then a USB 3.0 flash drive. All around I’m pretty happy with it. My only real complaint is that the lanyard clip it comes with does have a container or pouch for the USB C cable. Not a huge deal but think it would be handy as to keep it all together ready for use on the go as to not forget the cable.

Incredible for storing games
I put my top few steam games on this and play them from this thing plugged into my msi claw 8 ai+ or my pc. Keeps space cleared up on those other devices and works wonderfully. Super fast transfer speeds and very durable.

This is not just a hardened version of its older brother. It IS that, but rather more. The housing is metal in a bracket that contains the SSD and then is covered on the large front and back and the narrow sides with a very grippy but not tacky polymer. It feels high quality, dense and solid. Creaking just isn’t possible, it’s a unibloc, so to speak. The larger metal end creates a squarish hoop for the included rather nice Corsair yellow strap and clip. The port end is inside the metal housing and has a decent heavy snap-in cover. The port itself is solid and has a white LED dot beside it for the obvious data flow indication. So construction is great and better than most. The last issue to mention is the speed, which just by comparing about 5 not dissimilar drives that I have, including the regular EX400U flat grey puck of the same 2 TB size. Here, the Survivor was about 10-15% faster, just my own file write/read testing, not a benchmark. Possibly as this IS a 2025 release, Corsair has improved the port spec or such. I love this drive for faster needs and to boot, it’s made in Taiwan, which is awesome!
