All-around good mouse. Big improvement on earlier Steel Series Branded mouses.
Feels great to use, very ergonomic. Responsive tracking. Software customization options are pretty solid too; The extra pair of buttons on there are nice; they actuate only vertically so you cannot accidentally press them along with the regular “fwd” and “back” side buttons present. I set them up as “Enter” and “Esc”, which is a time-saver for my use case. It’s an RGB mouse; and if you like that this does it well; it even integrates effects with other Steel Series-branded things, so the ripple effect from your keyboard will ripple all the way to your mouse too. For those who don’t like it, it’s easy to turn off or just give it a very basic dim color. This is corded-only; no battery. It also feels nearly weightless; two things people tend to either love or hate with no in-between, so buyers should know that ahead of time too.I actually took a bit of a chance on buying this one; I had used an older mouse from the same manufacturer before and I wasn’t really very impressed with it; and on top of that it was defective too. But I do have a keyboard and headset from them that I really like, so I thought I’d give the mouse another chance too, when it was finally time to retire my old battle-worn Basilisk. For me, it’s been a great mouse. Pretty happy with it

Nice and responsive, just like I like it.
Aww yeah, this thing is smooth like butter. Feels great. The only rubberized bit is the mouse wheel, however.. It could’ve used just a bit more of that along contact points. Here’s to hoping it lasts years and years.

Great mouse, better than newer one imo
Honestly I find this better than the newer model of the mouse which i had purchased before. The RBG is more customizable, it feels better, and the buttons are the same. The rgb customization allows you to customize the strips on the side with 4 color zones, the back logo and the mouse wheel, all separate with full customization, compared to the single light in the newer version and the mousewheel. The newer version has holes all over it to reduce weight but honestly for me, it’s only feature was collecting dead skin, dust, and hair inside the mouse itself which i could not take apart to clean. This mouse has all the customizability of the newer ones and just has more visual appeal. Also SteelSeries GG is by far the best customization program i’ve had the pleasure to use for products, which is one of the reasons why i have been buying only SS products as of recent.

Great Performance and Features, With One Minor Annoyance
The SteelSeries Rival 5 is a fantastic all-around gaming mouse with a lot going for it. The TrueMove Air sensor feels incredibly precise, and tracking has been flawless whether I’m playing FPS titles, MMOs, or just doing regular desktop work. The lightweight 85g design makes it comfortable for long sessions, and the 9-button layout, especially the quick-action side buttons, is genuinely useful without feeling cramped or gimmicky.Build quality feels solid, and the RGB lighting is clean and customizable through SteelSeries GG. The switches are snappy, and overall the mouse strikes a great balance between performance, ergonomics, and versatility. In terms of ease of use, it’s very straightforward to set up: plug in the USB cable, install SteelSeries GG software if you want to customize RGB or button mappings, and you’re ready to go. The default configuration is sensible out of the box, so you don’t have to tinker if you don’t want to. The side buttons are well-placed and intuitive, and it works equally well whether you’re gaming, browsing, or working.Regarding value for money, given the performance, build quality, and feature set (9 programmable buttons, high-end sensor, durable switches), the Rival 5 offers excellent value. It delivers many features you’d expect in higher-priced mice, yet remains reasonably priced. If you’re looking for strong performance without paying premium flagship prices, this is a smart buy.The only drawback I’ve run into is the middle mouse button (the scroll-wheel click). It requires a bit more force than I’m used to, to the point where it sometimes feels like it’s stuck even though it’s not. It still works, just doesn’t feel as smooth or responsive as the rest of the buttons. Not a deal-breaker, but definitely something I noticed right away.If you want a lightweight, feature-rich, and highly accurate gaming mouse for a variety of game genres, the Rival 5 is a strong choice. Just be aware the middle-click might feel a bit stiff depending on your preference.

Coming from a Rival 310 I was a bit skeptical on the lack of rubber pads on the sides and the additional buttons, specifically their placement and reachability.I actually prefer the new feel over the rubber pads. They got gummy over time and were difficult to clean, the new style is quite comfortable and clean. As for the buttons, when u first started using it, I was lifting my thumb and pushing the buttons similar to Rival 310, it actually took me a day to realize you can just push upwards on them from the thumb resting position. It made them easier to use, because they are skinner than before and not as easy to blindly hit my muscle memory. The two extra buttons added are difficult to reach but it you use them for functions you rarely use but save you from reaching for the keyboard, they certainly are handy.Overall I’d say it’s an upgrade from the Rival 310, but I do prefer the side buttons from the 310.For web browsing I setup the upper side toggle for next/previous tab, and the silver thumb button for refresh. Pretty cool.
