great low light, no flash, museum camera
I bought this camera as a museum camera considering that previously I had only since 2005 been using bridge cameras for museum photos, with a large amount of blurred photos as a result, My go to museum bridge camera of 20MP even was not fully reliable. Doing research, I found out that it’s not the MP rating that counts for low light shots, but the image sensor. The Canon would be considered an entry level DSLR, priced very reasonably compared to most other DSLR cameras, but it does have a load of features nonetheless. What impressed me the most is its ability to shoot at very high ISO levels, well beyond what a bridge camera can do. I had not used any SLR camera since 2005, when I went from film to digital shooting. My favorite SLR’s in the past were the NIkon FM2, with a wide angle to telephoto zoom and my Konica T3-with multiple lenses. I was pleasantly surprised that the Canon still uses a mirror and was very pleased to hear the associated ker-chunk sound when taking a photo, although this might annoy other museum patrons. Nonetheless, I was pleased that it reminds me of my past film SLR’s. Incidentally, for a bout 100+ more dollars, Canon also has a similar mirror-less SLR, which also has a smaller less obtrusive profile. In any event, I gave the Canon its’ try out at the NYC Met Museum this past week. I was taking photos at the new John Singer Sargent exhibit, which was crowded and popular. Due to all the people, many of whom are taller than me, I found it necessary to zoom paintings and descriptive plaques and take photos at an angle. With my former bridge cameras, this would have guaranteed blurred pictures. Surprisingly, when I reviewed the many shots later at home, I noted that at least 99% were near perfect, confirming my choice of this camera as my go to museum camera. I wondered why I had not done this before. The next day, I returned to the museum, this time with Canon’s fixed 50mm lense, I got similarly great photo results. Interestingly, this lense performs like a mini telephoto as well as almost a macro lense, giving incredible close up shots of items on display, although it is somewhat more low light sensitive than the zoom lense that comes standard with the camera. Incidentally, this camera has a specific no flash setting. In auto mode, the flash goes off automatically-different than a bridge camera. Users should be aware of this in settings where flash use is verboten.

Great!
Great product! Upgraded from a 7D to this. Kit had everything I needed to start off. Cameras have made great advancements in the last few years when I last bought a new camera. Would not hesitate to order again.*Shipping delayed it a day from when it was supposed to be delivered, but that’s not an issue from the buyer. All of our deliveries have been late the last few weeks for some reason.

Far worse than I could have imagined from all the reviews
Not at all what I expected…I’ve used point and shoot cameras most of my life with quite decent success. I opted to purchase a little better camera when I damaged my last Olympus point and shoot on a recent vacation. I should have stayed with my phone photos. The camera is clunky, difficult to reach the shutter switch when taking a photo and doesn’t have nearly the depth of vision in the photos that my cheaper point and shoot could offer. The shutter is incredibly slow, I have already missed photos as a result. It’s not as easy to use as a point and shoot despite the myriad of settings my Olympus had. The lens that came in my bundle is worthless other than the camera needs a lens. The zoom capability is minute, honestly nearly nothing at all when you go from tightest to widest. I usually keep boxes for months when I first buy something but not this time because I had faith it it, but that was misguided. This would have been returned had I kept the box. It was just a mistake, poor design and functionality, workmanship mediocre, it’s molded plastic. Doesn’t deserve the one star, but there’s no option to go lower.
